Final

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FINAL EXAM (2017)

PART A

Time allowed: Part A is nominally 1.5 hour.
Total time allowed: 3 hours for Parts A and B

Instructions: Closed book examination. No calculators and computers are allowed for this part. Answer any 3 questions from 5 questions. If you answer more than 3 questions, only the first three will be marked. All questions carry equal marks.  All answers must be given in conventional units. All sketches must be clearly labeled and self-explanatory. Diagrams that are not properly and clearly labeled and are subject to ambiguity will be heavily penalized. State clearly all assumptions made in your derivations. Write your answers in the answer book.

Note: You must hand in this exam question book (Part A) before you can start on Part B.

Note: You may spend more or less time on Part A; but the total exam time is 3 hours

Note: You are NOT allowed to listen to any audio devices. e.g. CD players. No calculators

PART B

Part B is nominally 1.5 hour.
Total time allowed: 3 hours for Parts A and B

Instructions: Open book examination. Only the course textbooks and one three-ring binder containing course notes and handouts are allowed. Calculators are allowed. Laptop computers are not allowed.

Note: Answer Question 1 and then any 2 from Questions 2 to 4. If you answer more than 3 questions, only the first three will be marked. All questions carry equal marks. Marks for a part–question depend on the difficulty of the question. All answers must be given in conventional units. State clearly all assumptions made in your derivations. Method of solution must be clearly shown. Numerical mistakes, incorrect, unconventional or missing units will be heavily penalized.  Mention the source of materials data used.  

Note: No laptop or similar computers allowed.

Important: You must hand in Part A before you can start Part B. Write your answers in the answer book. You may spend more or less time on Part B; but the total exam time is 3 hours.
